  
Three CDs of splendidly diverse listening. The World Turned Upside Down, a 12-song collection of Revolutionary War-period music by Barry Phillips and friends, is named for a march that reportedly was played during the surrender of Cornwallis’ troops at Yorktown. Colonial America by the Hesperus Ensemble collect 18 popular ballads, spirited dance tunes and haunting hymns from England, Scotland, France and the American colonies. Jefferson and Liberty by the Itinerant Band includes 13 jigs, reels, marches and hymns familiar to soldiers of the Continental Army, all played on folk instruments.
